Chillesford is located about 3 miles from the riverside village of Orford and is the home of the popular Froize Inn, which is an amble up the road from Forrester’s Cottage. Step out of the cottage and there are numerous wonderful walks and cycling routes to enjoy. Chillesford is ideally situated for any kind of holiday, from the large nearby forests, to the beaches at Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, the Snape Maltings Concert Hall and the popular market town of Woodbridge are all within easy driving distance. Even though Chillesford is very close to the coast, the main A12 road is a short drive away which opens up the whole of the county for exploring and visiting the many places of interest throughout Suffolk. However, Forrester’s Cottage is so cosy and comfortable that you might not want to venture very far at all!
Low Row is a row of pretty, terraced cottages which were, once upon a time, occupied by the forest workers and Forrester’s Cottage has been completely refurbished by its new owners to provide very attractive accommodation for not more than four people.
Set back slightly from the road, there is a little garden and a path leading up to the front door which goes straight into the sitting room. Here there is soft seating and a coffee table in front of an open fire, television, video and DVD, together with a small library of videos, DVDs and books. The kitchen/diner is a good size and has a very homely, warm feel with a quarry tile floor, hand made units, butler sink, fridge with ice box, built-in electric oven and hobs, microwave, dishwasher, CD/radio, table and chairs and ample cooking and dining facilites. In the back lobby cupboard is a washing machine. Beyond the back lobby, is the bathroom with an electric shower over the bath as well as a hand held telephone shower, WC, wash basin and shaver socket.
Behind a door in the sitting room, very steep, curved stairs go up onto a landing bedroom with a double bed and far reaching views across meadows towards Butley Creek. Beyond the double room is a twin bedroom to the rear of the cottage with more rural views. The owners provide pillows, duvets, blankets, all bedlinen and towels and teacloths. The owners will be pleased to provide a highchair and travel cot so please request these at the time of making your booking if they are required. A normal size cot can be set up in the twin bedroom although this will take up a lot of free space. As well as the open fire in the sitting room, there are electric night storage heaters upstairs and downstairs.
A track leads from the road round to the back of Long Row and a five bar gate opens into the garden of Forrester’s Cottage for private parking. All of the rear garden is currently laid to grass with outside table and chairs, together with a lockable shed for bike storage. Half of the garden nearest to the house will be laid to patio in the autumn leaving the remaining half as rough grass for playing and lying around on and also for parking.
Children are welcome at Forrester’s Cottage and one, small, well behaved dog is permitted but please do not allow it upstairs or on the furniture and all traces of it are removed from inside and out of the cottage at the end of your stay. Smoking is not permitted inside Forrester’s Cottage.
The owners also have a beach hut at Felixstowe which visitors are welcome to hire at £15 per day.
