Originally a shipwright’s cottage, Wayfarer Cottage is located in a part of Kingston Road which is known locally as Kingston Terrace.   It is a narrow little street made up of a row of character cottages dating from the 1780s and is within easy walking distance of the river and the town centre facilities.   The shops, pubs and restaurants are closeby, as well as the indoor swimming pool and cinema.   Kingston playing field is a huge area for football, frisbee throwing and there is a marked cricket pitch too, as well as an enclosed children’s play area with all sorts of things to climb over, under and around.

In the far corner of the playing field and over the railway line, the Cow Path takes you to Kyson Point and the riverwall – a lovely circular walk which brings you back up beside the boating pond and to Kingston Road.  There are longer walks along the river down to The Quay and The Tide Mill or further onto Bromeswell and Melton and to Martlesham Creek.

Wayfarer Cottage has been in the same family for generations and has been lovingly restored and looked after to provide comfortable, cosy accommodation for 4/5 people.  Some of the original features, like the brick floors downstairs, have been retained but, to ensure visitors are happy and comfortable, the owners provide modern day facilities like free wireless internet connection, free local telephone calls (for free local takeway delivery perhaps!), flat screen television and a DVD.    Across the generations, the owners of Wayfarer have had connections with boatbuilding and there are signs throughout the cottage of boatbuilders’ influences.

The welcoming yellow front door goes straight into a small, cosy sitting room which, as well as the television and DVD, has a stereo system and an open fire. Beyond is a pleasant dining room, again with an open fire - ideal for long lazy suppers on a cold winter’s night. The small but well fitted kitchen looks onto the good sized, south facing rear garden and has an electric cooker, washer/dryer, slimline dishwasher, microwave, fridge with ice making compartment, coffee machine and plenty of cooking and dining facilites. With the back door in the kitchen it is easy to carry food out to the garden furniture on the lawn for alfresco meals. Beyond the kitchen is the bathroom which has a shower over the bath, WC and wash basin.

Stairs from the dining room go up to the first floor where the double bedroom is to the front of the cottage.   The middle ‘walk-thru’ bedroom sleeps two with a single bed and a raised bunk bed and beyond is a single bedroom to the rear of the cottage.

The owner provides all bedding (duvets and pillows), bedlinen, towels and teacloths and, as well as the two open fires, there is electric heating throughout the cottage – all included in the rental.

Parking is ‘as available’ in Kingston Terrace but there are neighbouring streets, and public car parks nearby are free between 6.00pm and 8.00am and on Sundays. Alternatively, the district council can provide a weekly carpark permit for your particular vehicle. Should you require one of these tickets, please advise us at the time of making your reservation - please note that this ticket does not guarantee a carpark space, it is just a cheaper and easier way of parking and saves hunting for the correct coins!

One small, well behaved pet is welcome and smoking is not allowed inside Wayfarer Cottage.
